Viktor Viktorovich Bregeda ( Russian Виктор Викторович Брегеда ; born July 1, 1963 in Taganrog ) is a Russian artist of surrealism and metarealism .

Life

Bregeda was born in 1963 in the southern Russian city of Taganrog into a family of artists. After attending the Art University in Moscow , he developed his own style in contrast to the sometimes strict rules of contemporary Russian painting.

Leonardo da Vinci , Hieronymus Bosch , Pieter Brueghel the Elder , Max Ernst , Nicholas Roerich inspired him most. The French school of the 18th and 19th centuries and the works of Andrew Wyeth are also important to him.

Bregeda's main art direction is working with en plein air - landscapes, still lifes and portraits in a metarealistic style influenced by a philosophy of the subconscious. Various technology, motif and style combinations are used. The Christianity occupies a special place in Bregedas art. His best-known work, Eucharist , opens a series of images that are shaped by Christian symbolism . In his works, Bregeda is interested in the nature of things that are inaccessible to empirical knowledge. "My art is based on observation and experiment ... not on theory".

Bregeda's art is represented in Russian and foreign painting galleries. Singers Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow , professional boxing world champion and Olympic champion Óscar de la Hoya , actors Burt Reynolds , Connie Sellecca and John Tesh have Bregeda's pictures in their personal collections.
