Wilbur R. Franks
Wilbur Rounding Franks (March 4, 1901 , † August 16, 1986 ) was a Canadian scientist and medic and was best known for inventing the anti-g-suit for fighter pilots and astronauts during World War II.
He was born and raised in Weston , Ontario . He studied medical science at the University of Toronto . After graduating, he continued his research at the university and developed the first liquid-filled anti-g suit with water between two layers of rubber.
Awards
Dr. Wilbur Rounding Franks was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Order of the British Empire for short) for his invention. This is a British Order of Merit that was donated by King George V in 1917. He received another award from the United States with the Legion of Merit . Other prizes he has received in the US were the Theodore C. Lyster Award and Eric Lilencrantz Award.
