Wild Island - The pure survival is a reality show that was produced by Endemol Shine Germany and was broadcast on ProSieben from November 8-14, 2015 .

A group of 14 adventurers tried to survive for four weeks on the island of Gibraleón in the Pearl Islands area near Panama . The participants film themselves.

concept

At Wild Island, 14 adventurers try to survive for four weeks on the island of Gibraleón near Panama. For this they completed a special survival training before their departure . The group is completely on its own and therefore independently provides food and shelter. Furthermore, the participants film each other, there is no camera team on the island. In order to still achieve good image quality, all participants completed camera training. In addition, three of the 14 adventurers are trained cameramen who can also help with technical problems. All islanders are completely equal, no one receives any advantages.

The islanders use the so-called Dropbox (a waterproof backpack) to exchange batteries and storage media, broken equipment, mosquito spray and suntan lotion, as well as unknown plants to check for edibility with the production base on the island of Contadora , which is just under 30 minutes away by boat. In addition, a list of the daily activities and the health of the participants is created by one of the adventurers and is also placed in the dropbox. To ensure the safety of the team, the islanders have two minutes of telephone contact with the production base every day .

In the event of an emergency, participants have the option of contacting the medical team on the Safety Island 15 minutes away by satellite phone. There is also a doctor among the participants and an emergency medical kit with a defibrillator is available.

Overall, the concept is based on the English program The Island with Bear Grylls , which was first produced in 2014 for Channel 4 and also took place in the Pearl Islands area.

Attendees

Eight men and six women started their adventure on the island of Gibraleón. Johannes had to leave the island on day four because he was injured on the first day. reception

criticism

Even before the first episode was broadcast, the concept of the show came under fire due to the trailer being broadcast. On social networks, numerous users complained about the display and killing of animals and the associated suffering of living beings.

The Stern criticized after the broadcast of the first episode that the purpose of the whole format has not become recognizable. In addition, the participants were not sufficiently presented. Oddsmeter.de sees a brilliant concept behind Wild Island, which fails due to a lack of airtime and thus a lack of clarity and tension. RP-Online is also skeptical about Wild Island, but emphasizes positively that technical information is provided on various topics and that there are no external interventions (tasks, exams, etc.).

The following episodes reached a very fluctuating number of viewers, which mostly depended on the supporting program.
