Isla Gibraleón is a small, uninhabited Panamanian island that is part of the Pearl Islands in the Gulf of Panama . It is located 2 km west of Isla Casaya and is part of a group of 200 or more islands (often small and uninhabited) that are just 50 km from the Pacific coast of Panama. Gibraleón has 8 km of coastline, five beaches and a mangrove swamp . Of the total of 112.35 hectares of land mass, 61.99 hectares are dense jungle . The island reaches a height of 11 meters above sea level and is in the time zone Eastern Standard Time ( UTC −5).
climate
The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITC), known as Kalmen among seafarers , rules the climate of the island of Gibraleón. The warmest month is March with an average temperature of 32.5 ° C. With an average of 21.9 ° C at night, January is the coldest month. Due to the proximity to the equator, there are no seasons on Gibraleón. Due to the ITC, however, there are both rainy and dry seasons . The rainy season lasts from May to December and shows itself mainly through changing winds and heavy rain. The dry season, from January to April, is characterized by clear skies and northeast trade winds. Due to the island's location in the Pearl Island Archipelago, Gibraleón is protected from the influences of the El Niño , which means that the water temperature in the rainy season usually remains between 28 and 29 ° C. This enables the continuous development of marine animals such as whale and tiger sharks , sperm whales , sea turtles , rays and large schools of fish .

Isla Gibraleón was the island of men in the first season (May 2014) of The Island with Bear Grylls and the island of women in the second season (April 2015).
The reality show Wild Island (first broadcast in November 2015), which follows the same concept as The Island with Bear Grylls , also sent 14 adventurers to the island.
