The Wilde + Spieth Furniture Design GmbH & Co. KG is a German manufacturer of seats , based in Esslingen am Neckar .
The company was founded in 1831 as the Spieth joinery. In 1912 the company was renamed Wilde + Spieth . The main business area was initially the construction of roller shutters .
In 1948, at the suggestion of the architect and designer Egon Eiermann, the production of seating began. With its molded wooden chairs, Eiermann pursued a groundbreaking innovation: the development of series furniture for social housing. In close cooperation with Eiermann, over 30 models for series furniture made of wood and tubular steel were developed by 1970, which are now among the design classics. The best known is the stackable SE 68 chair , which has been in production since 1950. In the 1950s, Wilde + Spieth also added designs by other modern architects to its range, including a. by Paul Schneider-Esleben , Herta-Maria Witzemann and Herbert Hirche .
The contemporary program (2009) includes not only the chair classics by Eiermann, but also designs by Daniel Libeskind and Thore Garbers . Orchestra chairs, music stands and accessories for musicians are also manufactured.
