particularities

aperiodically present

The Wildmoossee is an episodic lake, three kilometers west of Seefeld in Tyrol in the area of the village Wildmoos of the Austrian market town Telfs .

The lake is located in the area of the water-soluble main dolomite of the Seefeld plateau at 1316  m above sea level. A. . As a result, the subsoil is criss-crossed by fissures that reach up to the bottom of the lake. About every four years, so much groundwater has accumulated due to snowmelt and precipitation that it emerges from the crevices like a fountain under pressure and fills the lake basin. The highest water level is usually reached in May. The lake empties again in late autumn.

This cycle can change due to different water supply as a result of fluctuating precipitation.

The Lottensee, a kilometer and a half to the south-west, shows the same phenomena linked to karst landscapes .
