The Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary ( Thai : เขต รักษา พันธุ์ สัตว์ ป่าดง ใหญ่ ) is a wildlife sanctuary in Buriram Province in the northeast region of Thailand , known as Isan .

geography

The Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Pakham and Non Din Daeng counties of Buriram Province. The wildlife sanctuary has an area of ​​312.77 km² (31,300 hectares) and is divided into two areas by expressway 348. The Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Dong Phayayen - Khao Yai Forest Complex.

history

Dong Yai was declared a wildlife sanctuary by the forest reserve in 1996. The wildlife sanctuary is owned by the Thai state and administered by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), which is subordinate to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Flora and fauna

In addition to a range of tropical woods and plants, the Dong Yai wildlife sanctuary offers shelter for a wide variety of animals. For example, a study found that the forests of Dong Yai are home to 202 different animal species, including 12 amphibian species, 25 reptile species, 141 bird species and 24 mammal species.
