Game watch

A game watch is a watch used in hunting , which is used to observe the habits of game. There are different versions with winding mechanism or battery operation. Some game clocks are equipped with radio clockworks. They are used together with a crush-proof, bite-proof and watertight housing, usually with a stable, unscrewable cover. The currently most comfortable variant of the game clocks is based on mobile phones which, triggered by vibrations or movement, dial a preprogrammed phone number and thus enable indirect control of the game.

It is crucial that the watch stops deliberately or that the momentary time is saved as soon as the inclination is exceeded by a certain angle (usually 45 °). It serves the purpose of determining the habits of the game, at which times of the day or night certain feeding places , wallows , changing places as well as other places important for observation, keeping and hunting go to .

For use, the game watch with the housing, which is slightly tapered at the lower end, is stuck so tightly into the ground at the observation site that it falls over when touched lightly, but not by the first wind. If the game hits the clock while eating or passing, the time is recorded.
Game clocks with spring mechanisms usually continue to run as soon as the clock is set up again, i.e. brought back into the vertical position. For the next measurement, the time must be reset and the movement rewound if necessary. Battery-powered Wild watches have after reading and renewed application reset are. This is done by pressing a corresponding button or, if one is not available, by briefly removing the battery. With the latter variant, it is necessary to set the time again if the clock does not have a radio mechanism and thus automatically adjusts the time after receiving the radio signal.

With repeated use on consecutive days, one can study the habits of the game. Using modern game clocks, the exact times and dates can be determined.

The favorable price development for camera traps has meant that game watches have lost their importance. The advantage of the camera traps is that, in addition to the time, information on the cause, e.g. B. of the animal species concerned.
