Feeding with a small pit

When feeding place of the designated hunter under German law a place for discharging grains such. B. corn , or other non-meat substances (also from eggs and cheese), which are sought by game as food. It is a "bait feeding". The process itself is called "jarring" or "jarring".

The animals are predominantly to kirrenden omnivores (z. B. wild boar ) and herbivores. Wild boar is most often chirred (preferably with maize), but also game birds (e.g. pheasant , partridge ) and some small game . In some cases, lick stones are also counted as part of the feeding places.

The purpose of feeding is to lure the game to a certain place and to keep it occupied there long enough to be able to hunt and / or observe it.

The attracting of predatory game, which mainly eats meat, is done with offal and meat from exclusively game. In this case, the hunter speaks of Luder , Luderplatz and of "lousy".

In the respective (state) hunting laws it is stipulated that the number of feeding places per unit area is limited and may not assume the character of feeding (amount and extent of feeding place ). In addition, it is often stipulated that the food to be found may only be accessible to a certain species of game (e.g. wild boar). This is to be ensured by structural measures of the feeding place.

Feeding areas are laid out according to the game species to be kelt: laid out openly, dug in or secured by containers that release feed to be found when moving (e.g. "sow circle").

To increased peel damage to be avoided, should in and on cost areas to dispense with the use at night.

Feeding places are often provided with game clocks or photo traps to give the hunter an overview of the "operation" at the feeding place.

  1. Hessen Law Wildlife Feeding: (8) Feeding for hunting wild boar (feeding) with local grain, maize and peas is permitted and must be reported to the hunting authority. The amount of feed applied is limited to a maximum of one liter per day and feeding point. One feeding area is permitted per hunting district, one additional per 100 ha of hunting area or in red deer areas per 250 ha of hunting area. Paragraph 6 sentence 4 applies accordingly. The hunting authority has to forbid feeding if the number of feeding allowed under sentence 3 is exceeded.
