The Wild Bird Avian Influenza Protection Ordinance regulated at the federal level, further to avian Regulation , for avian Protection Ordinance and poultry stabling Regulation protective measures in the event of avian influenza in wild birds in Germany.
After the massive occurrence of influenza A / H5N1 among wild poultry, it came into force on February 19, 2006, initially for a limited period until August 20, 2006, and in particular regulated the establishment of restricted areas after wild birds infected with the virus were found.
According to the regulation, all keepers of chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, partridges, pheasants, ratites, quails, ducks or geese had to immediately record the number of animals kept, their type of use and their location in an official register.
Similar to the rules of the Avian Influenza Ordinance for combating influenza outbreaks in animal husbandry, the Wild Bird Avian Influence Protection Ordinance stipulated that after a H5N1-infected wild bird was found, a restricted area of three kilometers radius had to be set up around the site.
No live poultry, processed poultry products or other captive birds could be brought outside of this restricted area for the duration of the ban.
With a radius of ten kilometers, an observation zone was set up around the site in which poultry and other birds were only allowed to be transported with official approval.
The ordinance also regulated various exceptions in great detail, including the transport of birds, meat products and feathers in the observation zone.
The ordinance was repealed by the avian influenza ordinance of October 18, 2007 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 2348 ).
