The original version of the Poultry Housing Ordinance dates from February 15, 2006 ( BAnz. No. 33 p. 989). It came into force in Germany on February 17, 2006 under the title Ordinance on the housing of poultry for protection against classic avian influenza . In particular, it prescribed the keeping of poultry in closed stalls until April 30, 2006. Chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, partridges, pheasants, ratites, quails, ducks and geese are expressly mentioned in this regulation.
The main aim of the regulation was to limit the spread of influenza A / H5N1 . However, the mandatory veterinary examinations generally had to refer to all influenza subtypes H5 and H7.
In addition, some exceptional circumstances were mentioned in detail, including the conditions for keeping poultry in not completely closed aviaries . Such keeping was permitted if it was reported to an official register and if the animals were "kept under a protruding, tight cover secured against entry and with a side border secured against the intrusion of birds". In this case, a clinical veterinary examination of the poultry had to be carried out at least once a month and documented by a veterinarian. It was also stipulated that poultry may only be released from a flock if they have previously been kept in closed stalls for at least two weeks and have also been examined by a veterinarian.
The ordinance was initially extended to May 15, 2006. It was then replaced by a new version dated May 9, 2006 ( eBAnz AT28 2006 V1 ) with a short title .
The Poultry Housing Ordinance, last amended by the ordinance of February 22, 2007 (BAnz. No. 40 p. 2063), was amended by Section 67, Paragraph 1, No. 3 of the Avian Influence Ordinance of October 18, 2007 ( Federal Law Gazette I p . 2348, 2376) repealed.
