The Animal Diseases Act (TSG) in Austria regulates the measures to be taken when animal diseases occur in domestic animals , animals in zoos and wild animals living in the wild .

The law determines measures in the event of the occurrence of animal diseases such as the determination of specific diseases veterinarians and disease Commission , disinfection measures , export regulations, publication of the disease outbreak as well as the prevention , such as training of veterinary officials , preventing the introduction from abroad (required veterinary border controls), control of cattle markets or animal auctions, monitoring of the trade and transport of animals, large gatherings of animals, slaughter animal and meat inspection, carcass processing and others.

The law distinguishes between suspected and contagious animals , i.e. sick and infectious animals.

According to Sections 50 to 58, the governor uses federal funds to compensate, among other things, for livestock losses that have arisen as a result of official killing orders or certain other regulations governing animal husbandry in accordance with the law. In the event of livestock losses, the market value determined by an appraisal commission is decisive for the amount of the compensation.

Enforcement authority

The first instance enforcement authority is the district administrative authority , then the governor and the federal chancellor .
