Wilfried (Willi) Kühlem (born January 26, 1963 in Cologne ) is a former German swimmer. He started for SV Rhenania Köln and was trained by Gerhard Hetz and Elmar Schneider. Because of its speed, the press dubbed it "Rocket von Deutz"

In 1980, Kühlem became German youth champion and this year improved the German age group record three times for 17-year-olds. In 1981 he swam with the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay alongside Michael Groß, a European record. In the same year he took third place with the relay at the European Championships in Split over the same distance and thus achieved the first international success in the club history of SV Rhenania Köln. In 1982 he took part as German runner-up in the 100 m freestyle in the individual and relay races at the World Championships in Guayaquil (fourth place 4 × 100 m freestyle). Between 1982 and 1984 he won three German championship titles over 4 × 200 freestyle, among others with the future long-distance world champion Rainer Henkel .

In 1984, Kühlem fulfilled the qualification standard for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles with a third place in the 100 m freestyle . Nevertheless, the German Swimming Association (DSV) did not nominate him, but the fifth placed. The trial against the DSV was won by Kühlem, the 25th civil chamber at the Munich Regional Court saw his action as justified and the DSV had to nominate Kühlem for the games in Los Angeles. But the Olympic Games still took place without the sprinter because the NOK refused his nomination. Kühlem received the referee license in 1982 and the trainer B license in 1986 and worked from 1986 to 1997 as a trainer in children's and youth swimming.

Wilfried Kühlem is the owner of a property management company in Cologne, married to Kordula Kühlem and has two children.
