Wilhelm Bollwahn

Wilhelm Karl Otto Bollwahn (born January 25, 1930 in Zudar ; † May 1, 2008 ) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Wilhelm Bollwahn was born as the son of the businessman of the same name. After training in agriculture, he began studying veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover in the winter semester of 1953/54 and became a member of the Corps Normannia Hanover . After completing his studies, he became a scientific assistant at Wilhelm Schulze's clinic for small cloven-hoofed animals . In 1959 he was awarded a Dr. med. vet. PhD. In 1966 he completed his habilitation there for swine diseases and was appointed scientific advisor and professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover. After a guest professorship from 1967 to 1968 at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre , he became head of department at the clinic for small cloven-hoofed animals in Hanover in 1971. In 1979 he accepted a professorship for internal diseases in pigs at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1984 he was appointed head of the clinic for cloven-hoofed animals at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover as the successor to Wilhelm Schulze. He headed the clinic until his retirement in 1995.

Bollwahn's research area was particularly pig diseases.
