Friedrich Wilhelm Julius Döring (born November 4, 1896 in Groß-Gerau , † February 4, 1973 in Gießen ) was a German politician of the LDP in the GDR. He was a member of the Thuringian parliament and the GDR regional chamber . In 1953 he fled to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Life

Döring was born on November 4, 1896 in Groß-Gerau as the son of a businessman. He attended the local Higher Citizens' School until he obtained the prima qualification and then began a commercial apprenticeship from 1911 at Adam Opel AG in neighboring Rüsselsheim . After completing his apprenticeship, Döring was employed as a technical buyer for Opel workers until 1915. He was then drawn to military service, where he served in the foot artillery on the Western Front. There he was taken prisoner by the French on December 14, 1916, from which he was only released on March 4, 1920. Nevertheless, Döring quickly got back into employment, as early as April 1, 1920 he resumed his work as a buyer for his old employer, Opel. He worked there until the end of 1924, most recently as a department head. At the beginning of 1925, Döring was now head of purchasing at Automobil- & Maschinenfabrik Rudolf Ley in Arnstadt , Thuringia . He worked for this company, which shortly thereafter went steadily downhill, until the end of 1930, after which Döring started his own business as a sales representative. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, Döring was called up for military service again on October 26, 1939, he served briefly as a private in a state rifle battalion , but was released again on January 22, 1940. Subsequently, Döring devoted himself again to his work as an independent sales representative, with whom he apparently also survived the end of the war. Under the new Soviet occupying power, Döring got into local politics, albeit in the Eisenach area , where he now lived. Until then, Döring had only been a member of the Employees ' Union from 1912 to 1925 . He subsequently developed into one of the formative figures of the newly founded Liberal Democratic Party LDP in the Eisenach district. Döring was one of the founding members of the LDP in Eisenach in August 1945. In the Eisenach area in particular, the LDP subsequently achieved a large electorate, and from 1946 to 1990 it provided the mayor of Eisenach. From August 13, 1945 to July 15, 1947 Döring was initially secretary of the Eisenach district association, then he was elected chairman of the Eisenach LDP district association. In this function, Döring also belonged to the executive state board of the LDP in Thuringia. At the state party convention of the LDP on March 9 and 10, 1949, he was elected 2nd deputy state chairman, he remained in this office until March 11, 1951. With the state-wide political functions, Döring began a time as a member of parliament. In October 1949 he was named by the Thuringian state parliament as one of 6 state representatives for the newly created provisional chamber of the GDR . In 1950, Döring was again sent by the Thuringian Parliament as one of ten representatives from Thuringia to the GDR Land Chamber. At the same time, Döring ran for an LDP mandate in the Thuringian state parliament in the state elections in 1950 and was also elected in this. He was a member of the state parliament until its dissolution in July 1952. On May 25, 1953 , Döring fled to the Federal Republic of Germany and was subsequently expelled from the LDPD. Döring died almost 20 years later after this escape on February 4, 1973 in Gießen, Hesse.
