Wilhelm Krökel
Wilhelm Krökel (born April 26, 1890 in Wilhelmshaven -Bant; † February 18, 1945 in Neuengamme concentration camp ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism .
Life
After elementary school, Krökel completed an apprenticeship as a ship carpenter at the Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven from 1905 to 1909 and was then employed there until 1933. Krökel did not have to take part in the First World War because of his vital work . From 1911 he was a member of the German Metalworkers' Association (DMV) and was a member of the board of the local DMV association. From 1919 to 1933 he was chairman of the works council. He also chaired the workers' sports organization in the Weser-Ems district. Since 1909 a member of the SPD , he was a member of the Bant Citizens' Board. Krökel was married from 1916 and had two daughters.
After the seizure of power of the Nazis he was dismissed for political reasons in early May 1933, 400 colleagues. From 1936 he was employed by Norddeutsche Eisenbau . Krökel belonged to the resistance group around Arthur Grunewald senior. on. He was arrested on August 22, 1944 as part of the Grid Action and sent to the Neuengamme concentration camp via a labor education camp, where he died.
A square in Wilhelmshaven is named after him.
