Life

Wilhelm Lüdecke came from a humble background; his father was a craftsman and made wooden clogs. For a little tip, Wilhelm carried the wooden shoes to the surrounding villages and the like. a. to Messdorf. In Holzhausen, a neighboring town of Bismark, the boy looked after cows in the summer months. In nature he listened to the diverse voices of the birds and an old country teacher discovered musical talents in him. After his school days he learned to make music on trumpet , violin and piano with August Bruns in Bismark , he also learned a lot in self-study. He then played in various bands in and outside of town, including an apprentice band, the “Stadtpfeife” in Pritzwalk, where Lüdecke played with the later famous composer Paul Lincke. He also began to compose and arrange pieces himself. In 1884 the first two compositions were published by the Linsdorf publishing house in Dessau .

In 1894 Lüdecke founded the Musikalien-Verlag Lüdecke Bismark, Province of Saxony, and sold his compositions. From 1920 on, the publishing house also had a printing house that temporarily employed up to twelve people, including musicians. The publishing house sold up to 1200 of its own works by Lüdecke to up to 2000 subscribers, including many professional musicians. In addition, there were up to 120 individual daily orders, and exports were made to European countries, the USA , Brazil and even Indonesia . The Bismarker dance album with over 500 mostly original compositions, such as the well-known Wanderers Abschied, was particularly popular . Lüdeckes marches were partly included in the Prussian army march collection , e.g. B. the March Light Cavalry . After his death the publishing house was initially continued, from 1945 to 1948 by his daughters and then dissolved.
