Wilhelm Mayrhofer

Wilhelm Mayrhofer (born June 16, 1923 in Luftenberg an der Donau , † May 27, 1996 ) was an Austrian railway employee and politician ( SPÖ ). From 1966 to 1983 he was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag .

Life and Political Work

Wilhelm Mayrhofer first attended primary school, then did an apprenticeship as a blacksmith and was employed by the Deutsche Reichsbahn . In 1941 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and became a Russian prisoner of war, from which he returned in 1946. Mayerhofer was then employed by the ÖBB .

In 1946 Mayrhofer joined the SPÖ and in 1949 became local party chairman of Luftenberg; From 1954 to 1987 was mayor there. From 1963 to 1980 he was also district party chairman of the SPÖ Perg and a member of the state party executive. In 1966 he was elected to the Upper Austrian Landtag, from which he resigned in 1983.

Mayhofer had been married since 1947 and had a daughter.

Awards

In 1966 Mayrhofer was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria , followed in 1984 by the Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . In addition, he was the holder of the Victor Adler plaque of the SPÖ and an honorary citizen of the community of Luftenberg.
