June 29th : The opera Die Feen by Richard Wagner is performed for the first time in Munich . The work by the composer, who died in 1883, was written in 1834 and was Wagner's first completed opera.

October 4th : The pantomime divertissement Die Puppenfee is premiered at the K. uk Hofoperntheater in Vienna with music by Josef Bayer based on a joint libretto by Joseph Haßreiter and Franz Gaul.

October 27 : premiere of the operetta The Hunt for Happiness by Franz von Suppè in the Carltheater in Vienna.
