Eugène Bigot

Eugène Bigot (born February 28, 1888 in Rennes , † July 17, 1965 in Paris ) was a French composer , conductor and music teacher.

Life

Bigot was a student at the Rennes Conservatory from 1895 to 1899. In 1905 he went to Paris, where he studied with Gabriel Fauré , André Gedalge , Paul Vidal and Xavier Leroux . From 1909 to 1911 he did military service as a musician at the École d'Artillerie of Versailles . He then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris . From 1914 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War. From 1920 to 1923 he was the orchestra director of the Ballet Suédois , with which he toured all of Europe. From 1927 to 1964 he directed the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and from 1935 to 1950 the Lamoureux Concerts . He also worked at the Opéra-Comique from 1936 to 1947 and was professor at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1936 to 1947 . His most prominent student was Mikis Theodorakis .

Bigot composed chamber music and symphonic works, ballets and theatrical music, and numerous instrumental pieces for the competitions at the Conservatoire.
