Cornelius Strauch (* 1611 in Waldenrath ; † 23 June 1650 in Vienna ) was abbot of the Lilienfeld monastery .

Life

Strauch studied theology in Vienna and Rome and was ordained a priest in 1635 and obtained a doctorate in theology. After returning to Lilienfeld, he initially worked in pastoral care until he was elected abbot in 1638 after the death of his predecessor Ignaz Krafft . Around 1641 he had the imperial wing built on the west side of the monastery, as well as the rectory in Annaberg and the parish church in Josefsberg . As general commissioner of the order, he worked for the recovery of the Cistercian monasteries as a result of the Edict of Restitution of 1629 throughout the entire Reich. He was also Vicar General of the Order in Bavaria and General Commissioner in Hungary. Emperor Ferdinand III. appointed him in 1640 to the imperial council and 1642 to the war commissioner. In 1641 he was elected as ordinator of the estates and in 1643 was appointed archduke Leopold Wilhelm's councilor. He died in Vienna in 1650 and was buried in Lilienfeld.
