Ignaz Krafft (* 1590 in Lammersdorf bei Simmerath , † June 29, 1638 in Vienna ) was abbot of the monasteries Neukloster and Lilienfeld .

Life

Ignaz Krafft, who came from the Lower Rhine, studied philosophy in Graz and theology in Rome and was ordained a priest in 1617. Joined the Cistercian Abbey of Rein in 1613 , he was elected abbot of the Neukloster Abbey in 1618 and transferred to Lilienfeld Abbey in 1622 by Emperor Ferdinand II. In 1629 he was also appointed visitor to Lower Austria and in 1635 vicar general for Austria.

In Lilienfeld he had a new wing built and the collegiate church restored. In addition, he was able to enlarge the monastery area by acquiring the lordships of Kreisbach , Araberg and Bergau and the parishes of Kaumberg and Unterretzbach , which were confiscated by Baron Jörger von Tollet . In many cases he was also active in political matters on behalf of Emperor Ferdinand, whose secret council he was. In 1636 he was elevated to the status of imperial baron by the emperor with the title "von Tschernikowitz and Lammersdorf " and in 1637 appointed president of the court chamber . He died in Vienna in 1638 and was buried in Lilienfeld. His successor Cornelius Strauch was one of the candidates brought to Lilienfeld from his homeland on the Lower Rhine .
