Maggie Teyte
Dame Maggie Teyte , DBE , actually Maggie Tate , (born April 17, 1888 in Wolverhampton , † May 26, 1976 ) was a British opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Teyte studied with Jean de Reszke in Paris and made her debut there in 1906. After that she changed her last name to Teyte - to adapt the pronunciation of her name to the French spelling.
In particular, the soprano made a name for herself as an interpreter of French composers of the late 19th and 20th centuries ( Claude Debussy , Maurice Ravel , Reynaldo Hahn , Henri Duparc , Ernest Chausson and others).
Honors
In 1958 Queen Elizabeth II accepted her as a Dame Commander in the Order of the British Empire because of her musical merits , thereby elevating her to the rank of personal nobility .
