Wilhelm Sünkel

Wilhelm Sünkel (born June 4, 1894 ; † 1977 ) was a German teacher and mayor of Detmold in 1946 .

Wilhelm Sünkel had been a primary school teacher since 1914 and took part in the First and Second World Wars . He was a member of the NSLB . On January 1, 1946, he became a member of the SPD .

On February 7, 1946, Detmold's 30-strong local council, which was put together by the British military government at the turn of the year 1945/46, appointed the teacher Wilhelm Sünkel as mayor and his predecessor Richard Moes as city director. In the same year, on August 29, 1946, Sünkel resigned from his office. Sünkel's deputy, the lawyer Wilhelm Schnitger, was temporarily entrusted with the task. Wilhelm Sünkel was appointed head of the high school authority of the Lippe state government. With the incorporation of Lippe into the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, he was head of department 2 (churches and schools) at the district government in Detmold from 1947. Sünkel became government director in Detmold on February 14, 1949 . He retired on June 30, 1959.

Wilhelm Sünkel was the father of the educational scientist Wolfgang Sünkel . In addition to his educational and political activities, Sünkel has also worked on poetry collections for secondary schools.
