Wilhelm Selling

Wilhelm Selling (born February 12, 1869 in Steinau an der Oder ; † May 29, 1960 in Berlin ) was a German architect and anthroposophist . He supported Rudolf Steiner and was the initiator and mentor of anthroposophical youth work in Berlin.

life and work

Wilhelm Selling attended high school in Breslau . He then studied mechanical engineering at the Mittweida technical center and architecture at the Karlsruhe Technical University . After a year in the military, he took part in an expedition to Africa. There he worked as an engineer, but returned to Germany at the turn of the century for health reasons. In Berlin he became accountant for the Reich Colonial Office and retired early for health reasons.

In 1903 he attended a lecture by Rudolf Steiner and became his pupil. Selling was later the initiator and mentor of anthroposophical youth work in Berlin. In addition, he was in charge of the Theosophical Library there . In 1930 he co-founded the Waldorf School in Stockholm - he met his future wife Karin geb. Flack there in 1910. He advocated the performance of the Oberuferer Christmas Games in Stockholm and translated them into Swedish. When the Second World War broke out in 1939 , the Sellings returned to Berlin. After the war he continued to play Christmas games.
