Wilhelm Hermann Zeltz (born February 8, 1819 in Stralsund , † August 16, 1890 in Rostock ) was a German shipbuilder and entrepreneur.

Life

Wilhelm Zeltz was the son of the skipper Johann Caspar Zeltz. From 1836 he learned the profession of shipbuilder in Lübeck and then found a job in Stralsund. He attended the Royal Danish Chamber of Construction of the Sea Budget in Copenhagen ; He did practical work at the royal shipyard there. In order to look at shipbuilding companies, he made trips to London , France and Holland. In 1841 he passed the examination to become a shipbuilder. In 1842 Wilhelm Zeltz acquired citizenship in Rostock .

In 1843 Wilhelm Zeltz founded a shipyard and machine factory together with Albrecht Tischbein , which from 1850 on was named Neptun Werft . Zeltz first introduced the copper-resistant shipbuilding method in Mecklenburg and built the only two wooden full ships for the Rostock shipping fleet. The - Schiffswerft & Maschinenfabrik - Wilhelm Zeltz and Albrecht Tischbein participated in the construction of Germany's first iron screw steamer, the "Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Franz" and "Grand Duke Constantin". The barque “Amazone” was also built at Wilhelm Zeltz's shipyard in Rostock.
