Wilhelm von Holte (Provost)

Wilhelm von Holte († 1241 ) was provost of the cathedral in the prince-bishopric of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Wilhelm von Holte came as the son of the noble lord Wilhelm von Holte of the ancient Westphalian noble family von Holte with the ancestral seat of Holter Burg . His mother's name is not known. He had four brothers and one sister: Adolf (successor to his father), Ludolf (Bishop of Münster), Hermann (Abbot in Corvey ), Jutta (Abbess in Nottuln) and Wigbold, who after the election of his son Wilhelm as Bishop of Münster in Monk in Loccum became a monk. Another son was Wigbold (Archbishop of Cologne).

Career and work

As canon to Munster it is 1196 mentioned for the first time on April 1, 1227 in Osnabrück successor Henry of Cappeln the provost selected. The election to the cathedral provost in Munster fell on July 12, 1238. He remained in this office until his death.
