History of the song

The song tells of Wilhelmina, a charming girl from Copenhagen, who turns the heads of all boys and whose kisses taste as sweet as Danish pastries and the boys' dream of soon being able to call Wilhelmina "my Wilhelmina".

Freddy Martin was represented with the song 1950 from April 22nd for ten weeks in the US CashBox charts. In his personal record of his best songs, Wilhelmina is ranked 21st of his best listed 86 songs. Martin's cover version was the most successful among the versions sung.
