Wilhelmitenkloster Witzenhausen

The Wilhelmitenkloster Witzenhausen was a monastery of the Cistercians from 1275 to 1291 and of the Wilhelmites in Witzenhausen in Hesse from 1291 to 1528 .

history

In 1275 nuns of the Anrode Monastery founded the St. Nikolaus Monastery at the gates of Witzenhausen (today: Steinstraße) , but it only existed until 1291. Then came Wilhelmites, who moved the site of the monastery to the city center in 1358. The Gothic Wilhelmite monastery in Steinstrasse has still been preserved with its chapter house, church portal and refectory. Today it serves the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Kassel .
