Willem Schuth

Willem Schuth (born June 14, 1954 in Assen ) is a Dutch politician ( FDP and VVD ).

From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament for the German FDP without being a German citizen. This made him the only non-German MP sent by Germany during this period.

Life and work

Schuth did his military service in the Dutch armed forces from 1975 to 1976 and then worked as an employee in the Dutch Ministry of Defense . In 1979 he went to Germany and worked there until 2004 as an administrative officer in the Seedorf barracks in Lower Saxony.

Political party

Schuth, who in the Netherlands already belonged to the "People's Party for Vrijheid en Democratie" (VVD), joined the FDP in 1996. From 1998 to 2006 he was deputy chairman of the FDP district association Elbe-Weser and has been a member of the state board of the FDP in Lower Saxony since 2002 . Since 2003 he has been a member of the Council of the European Liberal, Democratic and Reform Party (ELDR).

MP

Schuth was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009. There he was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the delegations for relations with Switzerland, Iceland and Norway as well as the Joint Parliamentary Committee “ European Economic Area (EEA)”.
