Willi Jaschek

Willi Jaschek (born September 2, 1940 in Olomouc , Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) is a former German gymnast .

Life

The German gymnast Willi Jaschek was four-time twelve-time champion in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1962 and 1970 and won two titles each on the pommel horse , on the rings and on the parallel bars . In total, he won 32 medals at German championships. For the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) he played 31 international matches. With TSV Heusenstamm he became German team champion in 1965. He took part in three world championships and the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 and in Mexico in 1968 . When he took part in 1968 he achieved fame as the "Hero of Mexico" when he ended the competition despite tearing his Achilles tendon during the first exercise, floor exercise, and thus enabled his team to finish in eighth place.
