Willi Mönck

Willi Mönck (born June 19, 1921 ; died December 5, 2015 ) was a German chief engineer and specialist book author for wooden structures. After completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, he studied civil engineering in Breslau (now Wrocław) , and later obtained a diploma in architecture in Weimar.

In 1942 he was drafted as a soldier in the Wehrmacht, a few weeks later he lost his right lower leg at the front. On October 13, 1945 he married his wife Ilse from Quedlinburg, who was five years his junior. Mönck had three children, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mönck was an inspector in the Neustrelitz municipal building department and in 1948 the construction manager for the reopening of the Altstrelitz engineering school . At this engineering school he was initially a lecturer, from 1952 to 1954 he was director of the engineering school in Altstrelitz and thus the youngest head of such an educational institution in Germany. From 1954 to 1986 Willi Mönck worked in the central office for distance learning in Leipzig, which later became the institute for education and training in construction . Willi Mönck was considered the leading timber construction specialist in the GDR and has written more than 200 publications.
