Willi Störring
Willi Störring (born April 11, 1896 in Hagen , † October 29, 1978 in Düsseldorf ) was a German opera singer (tenor). He was best known as a hero tenor in Richard Wagner's operas .
Life
Störring was first a blacksmith. When his voice was discovered, it was trained by Fritz Rémond senior in Cologne.
He made his stage debut in 1927 at the Cologne Opera House as “Manrico” in the Troubadour. From there he moved to the Düsseldorf Opera House in 1930 and then, at Heinz Tietjen's request, to the Berlin State Opera in 1932 , where he was successful as a hero tenor in Italian and Wagner operas until 1935.
In 1933 and 1934 he sang smaller parts at the Bayreuth Festival . In 1935 he was "Rienzi" in the Wagner opera of the same name at the Sopot Festival. In 1940 he made a guest appearance at the Vienna State Opera.
From 1936 to 1944 he was a member of the Weimar National Theater Association. In 1947 he went to his native Hagen and worked there until 1952, the year of his official stage farewell. He sang the "Canio" in the Bajazzo . After that, however, he still performed occasionally until 1972. After his stage farewell, he worked as a singing teacher in Düsseldorf.
