William Cochran (singer)

William Cochran (born June 23, 1943 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American opera singer ( heroic tenor ).

Cochran studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Martial Singher . As the winner of the Lauritz Melchior -Heldentenor Foundation Award, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1968 in the role of Vogelgesang in Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg . In 1969 he portrayed Froh im Rheingold at the San Francisco Opera .

During his engagement at the Frankfurt Opera he was in Ruth Berghaus ' Ring der Siegfried. In 1997 he received the Binding Culture Prize in Frankfurt am Main .
