William Frank Pounds
William Frank Pounds (* 1928 ) is an American economist . He is Emeritus Professor of Management, Professor of Organization Studies ( Organizational Sciences ) and emeritus dean of the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Pounds is an expert in the management of companies ( corporate governance ) and production management (operations management) . He managed numerous companies and was a trustee of numerous non-profit organizations . From 1981 to 1991 he was senior advisor to the Rockefeller family.
Pounds earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Carnegie Institute of Technology . He initially worked for Kodak , interrupted his military service as a fighter pilot , and earned a Masters in Business Mathematics and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at the Carnegie Institute of Technology with the support of GI Bill. in Industrial Administration . After working as an assistant to the management of a company in the paint industry, Pounds received a position at MIT's Sloan School of Management in 1961 , became a professor in 1964 and was dean of the faculty from 1966 to 1980.
In 1971, Pounds was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . At MIT's Sloan School of Management there is a professorship for management named after Sloan, the position holder is (as of 2020) Georgia Perakis .
