William Flannery
William Edward Flannery (born November 17, 1898 in Ohio - † January 25, 1959 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American art director and production designer who won the Oscar for best production design in the color film Picnic (1955) at the 1956 Academy Awards won.
Life
Flannery began his career as art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1937 with the film Forlorn River and has worked on the production of over fifty films during his career.
At the 1955 Academy Awards, he and Jo Mielziner and Robert Priestley received the Oscar for best production design in the color film Picnic (1954), a melodrama directed by Joshua Logan with William Holden , Kim Novak and Betty Field in the lead roles .
