William Henry Balmain
William Henry Balmain (born December 12, 1817 in Heligoland , † January 15, 1880 in Ventnor ) was an English chemist .
Balmain was a student of Edward Turner in London and was his assistant until 1837. He was then a chemistry teacher at the Mechanics Institute in Liverpool . He also had a chemical factory in St. Helens. In the 1870s, he produced calcium sulfide-based phosphors known as Balmain phosphors.
He published on nitrogen compounds of bismuth and silicon.
