William Hodgson (botanist)

William Hodgson (born April 7, 1824 in Raughton Hill near Dalston , Cumberland (England) , † March 27, 1901 in Workington ) was a British botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Hodgs. "

Hodgson was a full-time teacher. At the age of 17 he became a Schoolmaster in Watermillock and later in Aspatria . He later lived in Workington and then in Maryport .

He was the botany rapporteur for the Cumberland and Westmorland Association for the Advancement of Literature and Science and published a monograph on the plants of his homeland, Cumberland.

In 1884 he became a member of the Linnean Society of London .
