William Joseph Lynch

William Joseph Lynch (born June 6, 1908 in Chicago , Illinois , †  August 9, 1976 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . After his appointment by President Lyndon B. Johnson , he served as a federal judge in the federal district court for the northern district of Illinois from 1966 until his death in 1976 .

Career

After graduating from school, William Lynch attended Loyola University , at whose School of Law he obtained a Bachelor of Laws in 1931 . He then practiced as a lawyer in Chicago until 1933. In this profession he was later active again from 1938 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1966. From 1933 to 1938, Lynch served as the Assistant Attorney in Cook County . Between 1942 and 1946 he served in the US Navy . He later embarked on a political career as a Democrat and was a member of the Illinois Senate from 1950 to 1957 . In this Chamber of Parliament he was from 1953 as a minority leader of the democratic minority group.

On January 19, 1966, Lynch was appointed Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by President Johnson to succeed Michael L. Igoe . After confirmation by the US Senate on March 4 of the same year, he was able to take office three days later. He did this until his death on August 9, 1976; his seat then fell to Nicholas John Bua . He was buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago.
