William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet (of Monreith)
Sir William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet (* around 1715 at Myrton Castle , † August 22, 1771 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish nobleman and landowner.
He was the eldest son of the House of Commons Sir Alexander Maxwell, 2nd Baronet , from his marriage to Lady Jean Montgomerie, daughter of Alexander Montgomerie , 9th Earl of Eglinton . He was born on his family home at Myrton Castle in Monreith near Mochrum in Wigtownshire . When his father died on May 23, 1730, he inherited his lands and the title of Baronet , of Monreith in the County of Wigtown, which had been awarded to his grandfather of the same name on January 8, 1681 in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia.
Around 1746 he married Magdalen Blair († 1765), daughter of William Scott, of Blair in Ayrshire. With her he had two sons and three daughters:
