William Neil McDonnell (born July 15, 1876 in Detroit , † May 11, 1941 ) was an American sports marksman .

successes

William McDonnell took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in six disciplines and won two medals. In the competition with the small bore rifle over 25 m on a vanishing target, he was third in the team competition alongside Frederick Hird , William Leushner and Warren Sprout and thus won the bronze medal. In the individual competitions with the small caliber he finished 18th in the prone position and 14th on the disappearing target. In the team competition on the running deer, McDonnell was the weakest shooter of the US team with 18 points, with which he was second behind the Swedish and before the Finnish team reached. In addition to McDonnell, Walter Winans , William Libbey and William Leushner won the silver medal. He finished the individual disciplines with the army rifle in 31st place in the three-position fight and 32nd place in the prone position.

In both the 1912 and 1920 Games, McDonnell served as the team doctor for the US rifle team. He served in the US Navy .
