William Meyer (Librarian)

William Meyer (born June 28, 1883 in Reval ; † September 12, 1932 ) was a German teacher, historian and librarian.

Life

Meyer attended high school in Reval and then studied history and philosophy in Saint Petersburg , where he obtained the state examination in 1907 and received his doctorate in 1908. From 1908 to 1919 he was active in the secondary school service in Arensburg and Mitau . It was not until 1920 that Meyer started working in the library in Königsberg . First he worked in the state and university library in Königsberg, then from 1929 in the city ​​library in Königsberg . In 1921 he obtained a second doctorate in Königsberg.

Meyer was active in regional and urban history research and devoted himself in particular to the history of relations between Germany and the Baltic countries as well as genealogical and biographical topics. He was co-founder and board member of the Association for Family Research in East and West Prussia.

The librarian Paul Kaegbein is a nephew of William Meyer.
