William Radcliffe Birt

William Radcliffe Birt (born July 15, 1804 in London , † December 14, 1881 in Leytonstone , Essex ) was an English amateur astronomer . He worked closely with John Herschel . In the years 1843 to 1850, he focused his main attention on meteorological studies of atmospheric waves. The majority of his works are in the Scientist's Collection of the American Philosophical Society .

The crater Birt and the Rima Birt on the Earth's moon are named after him.
