William Silberschmidt

William Silberschmidt (1914)

William Silberschmidt (born January 17, 1869 in La Chaux-de-Fonds , † April 8, 1947 in Zurich ) was a Swiss medic .

Life

William Silberschmidt's father had immigrated from Germany and set up the first watch factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Silberschmidt graduated 1887 Matura at the Gymnasium in Porrentruy . He studied medicine at the University of Bern , with two semesters abroad at the University of Munich . In 1892 he passed the state examination , and in 1893 he received his doctorate under Ernst Tavel . After a stay at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, he was given the position of assistant under Oskar Wyss at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Zurich. In 1895 he received his habilitation in Zurich . From 1906 he was extraordinary , and from 1910 full professor for hygiene with including the school hygiene and bacteriology at the University of Zurich. In 1912 the Hygiene Institute and the Pharmacological Institute moved into a new building on Gloriastrasse. In 1935 he resigned.

The historian Max Silberschmidt was his son.
