Willibald of Mainz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willibald von Mainz (also Wilbald von Mainz or Wilbald von St. Viktor ), cleric of the St. Viktor Abbey near Mainz , wrote probably around the year 760 on behalf of Lullus (Lul) , the successor of Boniface , and Bishop Megingaud of Würzburg , a biography of the latter, the so-called Vita sancti Bonifatii . The main source he used were the letters of Boniface made available by Lul. However, he had to write positively on one side because his client, as Boniface's successor, was interested in a particularly positive image of Boniface. Nevertheless, his writing is considered to be one of the most important sources on the life of Boniface.
