Willie Smits

Willie Smits (born February 22, 1957 in Weurt near Nijmegen , Netherlands ) is an animal rights activist and has a doctorate in forestry .

Smits completed a degree in tropical silviculture at the Agricultural University of Wageningen (Netherlands). There he received his doctorate in forestry . In 1991 in Borneo ( Indonesia ) he founded the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS), the world's largest organization for the protection of orangutans, which are directly threatened with extinction.

In Germany, Willie Smits works with various organizations.

On November 21, 2019 he received the Bambi in the "Our Earth" category in Baden-Baden .
