Willie Torres (singer, 1929)

William Manuel Ramón Torres (born October 30, 1929 in New York City ) is a Puerto Rican singer.

Torres began his musical career in 1943 as a member of Pappy Ali y sus Rumberos , of which he was a member for four years. After its dissolution in 1947, he worked as a truck driver for the New York Garment Center . From 1952 he belonged first to the Nick Jiménez Quintet then to the Joe Panamá Quintet . From 1954 to 1956 he was lead singer in the Joe Cuba Sextet .

He left this to join the José Curbelo Orchestra . After its dissolution in 1959, Torres initially worked independently until he joined Charlie Palmieri y Su Charanga "La Duboney" in 1961 . This collaboration lasted until the mid-1960s, and in 1966 Torres returned to the Joe Cuba Sextet. In 1970 he retired from live performances and took up a job as a bus driver. But he also worked as a solo or chorus singer on some recordings.
