As a professional, Dewit went down for the first time in his third fight. In this fight, however, he was able to reach a draw after six rounds. In his twelfth professional fight, he finally won the Canadian heavyweight title, which he should hold until the end of his career. In his sixteenth fight he suffered the only defeat in his professional career against the American Bert Cooper . In this fight he had to hit the ground twice in the first two rounds before the referee finally stopped the fight. He then climbed six more times in the ring and finally ended his professional career after beating his former amateur opponent Henry Tillman.
