Wilma Podewin

Wilma Podewin , née Wilma Ettlich, (born August 29, 1933 in Breslau ; † July 20, 1990 in Berlin ) was a German university professor and long-time member of the People's Chamber of the GDR.

Life

The daughter of an employee completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter from 1951 to 1952 after moving to the Soviet zone of occupation and attending secondary school with a high school diploma from 1951 to 1952 at LOWA Waggonbau Bautzen . She became a member of the FDJ in 1949 and of the FDGB and the Kulturbund in 1951 . From 1951 to 1952 she was a member of the Saxony regional leadership of the FDJ. In 1952 she became a member of the SED . From 1952 to 1957 she studied at the Technical University of Dresden with a degree in engineering.

From 1957 to 1970 she worked as a test and calculation engineer, head of the New Technology office, head of the test department and head of the main research department at VEB Pressen- und Scherenbau Erfurt and VEB Kombinat Umformtechnik Erfurt. From 1966 to 1970 she was a member of the SED city leadership in Erfurt. In 1969 she became a Dr.-Ing. PhD and appointed to the GDR Research Council. From 1970 to 1973 she was a full professor and head of the “Machine Tools” training center at the TH Karl-Marx-Stadt. From 1973 she worked as a full professor of technology and from January 1978 as director of the Institute for University Research at the Berlin-Karlshorst School of Economics .

From 1971 to 1981, as a member of the Kulturbund faction, she was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and a member of the committee for industry, construction and transport.

Wilma Podewin was called Ettlich until 1973. She was widowed and had one child. After a serious illness, she died at the age of 56.
