Wilson (Toronto Subway)

Wilson is an above-ground subway station in Toronto . It lies on the Yonge-University line of the Toronto Subway , at the corner of Allen Road and Wilson Avenue. The station has a central platform and is used by an average of 22,810 passengers every day (2015).

Artistic design

The station is in the median of Allen Road, a multi-lane feeder road to nearby Highway 401 . The bus station on the west side offers transfer options to nine bus routes. In addition, four park-and-rides with 2,258 chargeable parking spaces and a kiss-and-ride facility are available to commuters . The completely enclosed, soberly designed station is adorned with a mural by Ted Bieler: Canyons is a relief made of aluminum that depicts rough geological formations.

The Wilson Yard depot is northwest of the station . Built in 1976/77, it is the youngest of the entire network. In the first few years it was designed to be significantly smaller, but was then significantly expanded between 1994 and 1998 to replace the Davisville depot . The facility is around eleven hectares and also includes a bus garage.

Wilson Yard depot

The station opened on January 28, 1978, along with the section between St. George and Wilson. For more than 18 years this was the northwest terminus of the Yonge University Line. In November 1992, construction began on the extension to Downsview (now Sheppard West ), where a link with the Sheppard Line was planned. After a little more than three years, the extension was put into operation on March 30, 1996. As a result, the terminus of several bus routes was relocated to Downsview and the bus terminal in Wilson has since been under-occupied.
